Health Minister plays down strike by doctors

Dr. Senaratne said that the staged by doctors urging for vehicle permits was unnecessary and that they should have talks with the Government on this matter instead of staging a strike. (Colombo Gazette) Several trade unions representing doctors, dental surgeons, Ayurveda doctors, administrators, surveyors, veterinary surgeons, veterinary research officers, teacher educators, accountants, architects, agriculturists, engineers staged a countrywide token strike today against the government’s budget proposal on vehicle permits. Health Minister and cabinet spokesman, Dr Rajitha Senaratne, today played down a strike by doctors which is scheduled to end tomorrow morning.Senaratna said that the strike organised by the Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) did not disrupt work at Government hospitals. Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that emergency and accident services,  ICU, administration, and a part of OPD at the National Hospitals including island-wide government hospitals had not been affected by the strike.
