Drug trade: Goa police team up with H.P., Rajasthan

first_imgIn a bid to tackle the drug menace, Goa police have for the time shared data of alleged dealers with the Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Karnataka police.Goa Director General of Police Muktesh Chander on Monday told The Hindu that data of the last five years was being shared “after we were able to ascertain the source of and some of the persons who source drugs to Goa.” He said ganja and charas were mostly sourced from Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. The lists of accused in drug cases in the respective States was being shared, which also included names of some foreigners. “When you develop one point contact, information dissemination becomes faster and tracking becomes easy,” said the DGP and added that a meeting was held recently of senior police officials from Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Goa.The Narcotics Control Bureau has been saying for some years that popular tourist places like Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan have emerged as the “hot spots” for cocaine, ecstasy and LSD besides other synthetic drugs.last_img
