first_imgVeteran Leander Paes on Friday said Sumit Nagal’s real challenge lies in sustaining his recent performance, which has made the world sit up and take note.Nagal had made headlines after his spirited fight against the legendary Roger Federer in the first-round of the US Open.”It was a fantastic performance. I have seen Sumit for many years now. Even before he won the junior Wimbledon doubles, I had worked with him in the Canada,” Paes told reporters. The Olympic bronze medallist was in Mumbai to promote the ‘Tennis Premier League’, in which he co-owns a team.”… Not just that his backhand strokes which are so nice, not just that his legs which are so powerful, I felt he had tremendous talent. The real challenge for Sumit is going to be to sustain that quality performance,” he added.Paes said he was pleased to see the manner in which Nagal handled himself against a great like Federer.”To qualify for US Open is fantastic, I have been there myself, to see him do that and to see him play Roger Federer on the main court is a very daunting task and I thought he handled himself very well.”The multiple-time Grand Slam winner in doubles, Paes also lavished praise on Ramkumar Ramanathan.”Likewise if you see his contemporaries like Ramkumar Ramanathan, he had a great run in Newport (Hall of Fame Classic grass court tournament) last year when he got into the final and should have won the final but lost to Steve Johnson.advertisement”Ram has had some good results in challengers, had some decent results in 250s, he did really well in Maharashtra Open where he played against Marin Cilic.”Likewise you see Prajnesh (Gunneswaran), tally lefty, big serve, he’s also developing well and had some really good results. For all this boys, the consistency of their performance is really the call of the day.”Giving examples of successful leagues like IPL and ISL in cricket and football, Paes said that this year the Indian Davis Cup players have agreed to play in the Tennis Premier League (TPL), which will be held here. Also Read | Nick Kyrgios handed suspended ban, additional fine for Cincinnati outburstAlso See:last_img read more

Burlington teacher freed in Indonesia

Updated: Neil’s brother Guy Bantleman joined us on Morning Live. The family of a Burlington teacher jailed in Indonesia is ecstatic as they celebrate the release of Neil Bantleman and teaching assistant Ferdi Tjiong from jail.A picture from one of their colleagues shows the men celebrating with their wives following their release, early this morning our time.Last night it was announced that an appeals court had overturned the convictions against the two men for sexual abuse of kindergarten age boys.Their fortunes finally appeared to turn on Monday when a district court threw out the civil case brought by the mother of one of the children against the school, saying there was no proof that any of the alleged abuses had actually taken place.Throughout the ordeal both men maintained their innocence.    Their trial was widely criticized for presenting evidence that was inconsistent and sometimes contradictory.New evidence from medical reports from three different hospitals in Jakarta and Singapore showed no major injuries or abnormalities in the three children.Neil’s brother Guy Bantleman says the family expects Neil to stay in Indonesia for at least the next three days before returning to Canada for family reunions in Calgary and Burlington.
